Recently, a friend of mine has begun to watch Doctor Who from the 9th regeneration (Christopher Eccleston), and is currently racing through Matt Smith's time as the 11th regeneration.
I warned her that at the pace she was racing through Doctor Who seasons she was bound to experience some rather unfortunate side affects such as emotional trauma and feels whiplash.
She texted me the other day telling me about how awesome David was. I then questioned her as to what season she was in. She replied 4. I then replied with the picture you see to your right, and asked her how she was handling this. She told me she still wasn't capable to speak about it. I told her, that it has been years since I went through that moment for the first time, and I still haven't recovered, so I totally understood.
When she was approaching the switch from David to Matt, she began to tell me the woes of David having to leave, and how much she wasn't going to like Matt. I, being among the chiefest of Matt Smith haters at the beginning of his time as the Doctor. (I just couldn't hold out against the charming sadness that is the Doctor. Plus, his companions were terrific! "Hello Sweetie!")
Now, she is slowly warming up to Matt. She says that he just makes her laugh, and she just continues to grow to like him which is just as it should be. We almost talked ourselves into sending out a mass appeal to the land of Steven Moffat to have Steven Moffat somehow punished for destroying the feels of fangirls and fanboys everywhere... Then I thought better of it, because I realized he still has the 13 in his hands. Watch out, Whoniverse!
(I go by the John Hurt = 8.5 standard. Thus I reference Matt as 11 instead of his technically correct 12.)
